Dr. Mallon Sponsored by WOCC, Inc. to Attend 2012 AZA Conference
WOCC, Inc sponsored Dr. David Mallon chair of the IUCN antelope specialist group to attend the American Association of Zoos annual conference in Phoenix Arizona. Dr. Mallon discussed the shrinking number of dynamic, fully functioning ecosystems at wild landscape scales, with concomitant gradual and apparently inevitable shift in the concept of wild antelopes. Ninety two species of antelopes are recognized and assessed on the IUCN Red List occurring across Africa and in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The status of most antelopes is deteriorating worldwide, with reduced ranges and local extinctions leading to unquantified losses of intraspecific genetic diversity.
